Hello world! Sorry to all blog followers for not updating my blog in a while. Hopefully there will not be as big of gaps between my posts.
Anyway, another federal election has come and gone. What has the country gained from it? Or, what has the country lost from it?
I will remember this election as a interesting one. It was interesting from the start. Now, I like Harper, but I don't think he is perfect. He showed that when he broke his promise to the country to keep the next federal election at it's normal time. I can see why he wanted to get more seats. People are getting mad at him because he isn't doing amazing things. That's not fair. He couldn't do amazing things with the number of seats he had. Some people don't think this is a good excuse. My question for them is, do you think you could have done it?
I did watch the english debate, and it got quite heated. I was disapointed in it though, because all the leaders decided to gang-beat on Harper. Stephan Dion got a bit of a beating, but basically the whole night was people saying Harper isn't a good leader, even if it was irrelevent to what they were talking about. For example, Jack Layton of NDP when asked one of the questions sent in by various people around the country. He didn't answer the queston right away. He had to start attacking Harper. The news reporter acctually said to him "With all due respect Mr. Layton, you are not answering the question." Although Jack Layton did answer the question in the end, overall he didn't need to start tearing down Harper. It seem that every time he opens his mouth, he just starts to say that Harper is a bad leader. At another point in the evening, Stephan Dion wasn't too happy about what Stephen Harper was saying about his tax cuts. (Harper was talking about how Dion's cuts in one area didn't match his tax raises in another.) Dion outcried "Don't believe this man! We don't need these kind of leaders anymore!" It seems to be the running theme by every party that isn't conservative. They have to tear down Harper, claiming he isn't a good leader. I find it funny, because it seems that people are never happy with what leader they have. You can see this in many countrys around the world. Even if the leader isn't really bad, if it's who some people didn't want they automatically claim that the leader is a bad one. I am probably guilty of this myself, and can't look at many past prime ministers in a good lightbecause of what party they were from.
Anyway, moving on from the debate, it finally came to election day. The numbers were quite interesting, especially because the green party didn't get any seats. It seemed that this was the election that they were going to let their voice be heard. But it didn't happen.
The responses by some leaders were very interesting as well after the election. Elizabeth May of the Green party at the after-election celebration said "I was just at the conservative party celebration to congradulate them, and let me tell you, they aren't having nearly as fun as we are!" She had a good attitude, but I was disapointed that she started to tear down the conservatives on something that really didn't matter, AFTER the election. Once again, it seems all politicians can do is tear each other down.
Stephan Dion on the other hand, couldn't seem to handle the stress. He got choked up in his speech after the election, and apparently snapped at news reporters. We should pray for him in his hour of distress, even if we disagree with his political views.
